INTRODUCTION

Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) is currently taking applications from qualified candidates into its school of postgraduate studies for the 2025/2026 academic year.

FUTA has a vision to ensure that prospective candidates through their postgraduate programmes have a very sound and in-depth knowledge of the basic principles underlying the body of knowledge they are being trained to master and also develop a broad analytical mind that would enhance major intellectual and technological breakthroughs to improve the lot of man and the society.

PROGRAMMES OFFERED BY FUTA

FUTA offers an array of options suitable for whatever interest you have whether it is courses in the arts or sciences. Below are the list of degrees offered:

  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)
  • Master of Philosophy (M. Phil.)
  • Master of Philosophy/Doctor of Philosophy (M.Phil./Ph.D)
  • Master of Agricultural Technology (M. Agric. Tech.)
  • Master of Engineering (M. Eng.)
  • Master of Technology (M. Tech.)
  • Master of Science (M.Sc.).
  • Professional Master
  • Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA (PGD)
  • A first degree, not lower than Third Class, in the relevant discipline.
  • Higher National Diploma (HND) of atleast Lower Credit level or its equivalent in the relevant or related discipline.
  • Professional qualifications acceptable in the University, such as ACA, AIB, ACCA, ACIS, or equivalent for the Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science only.
MASTER OF AGRIC. TECHNOLOGY/MASTERS OF ENGINEERING/MASTER OF TECHNOLOGY/MASTER OF SCIENCE (M.Agric.Tech./M.Eng./M.Tech./M.Sc.)
  • A good Bachelors degree of at least Second Class Lower Division of The Federal University of Technology, Akure, in the appropriate discipline.
  • A good Bachelors degree of at least Second Class Lower Division from other recognized Universities, in the appropriate discipline.
  • Higher Diploma of at least a lower credit level and in addition, the candidate must have a Postgraduate Diploma (at Upper Credit level) in the appropriate discipline.
  • For School of Engineering and Engineering Technology only, apart from having a Higher Diploma of at least Lower Credit level, a candidate that possesses a Postgraduate Diploma with a minimum of CGPA of 3.0 in the appropriate discipline would be considered.
MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (M. Phil.)
  • For M.Phil. in advertised discipline, a good M. Tech. degree or equivalent is required in the relevant discipline.
DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (Ph. D)
  • A good Masters degree in the appropriate discipline with a CGPA of 3.50 and/or 60% minimum average score.
  • Any other qualification approved by Senate.

HOW TO APPLY

  • Payments are made for the application form using REMITA with payments made to the School of Postgraduate Studies account.
  • Application forms for postgraduate programmes are sold for N20,000.00 only

  • Ph.D candidates should send their Research Proposal to [email protected] using this format; surname_school/dept.doc e.g. Ojo_sos/che.researchproposal
  • Non–FUTA graduates are requested to print out Transcript Label attached to the Application Form and request their institutions to forward their official academic transcripts to the address below with the Transcript Label (indicating the target Department) latest SIX (6) weeks from the date of this advertisement.

  • Transcripts without the printed label will not be processed.
  • Applicants are no longer required to present O’Level results for postgraduate admissions.
  • Application and Acceptance fees are non-refundable.

PROGRAMME DURATION

Postgraduate Diploma Programmes (PGD)
  • Full-Time students shall normally spend between eighteen (18) and twenty-four (24) months.
  • Part-Time students shall normally spend between eighteen (18) and thirty-six (36) months.
Masters Programmes (M.Agric.Tech./M.Eng./M.Tech./M.Sc./Professional)
  • Students shall normally be required to spend between eighteen (18) and twenty-four (24) months.
M. Phil. Programme
  • Students shall normally be required to spend between eighteen (18) and twenty-four (24) months.
  • A candidate may transfer from M.Phil. to Ph.D programme after completing the course-work and fulfilling all other approved requirements.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Programme
  • Full-Time candidates may defend their theses between thirty-six (36) and forty-eight (48) months.
  • Part-Time candidates may defend their theses between thirty-six (36) and forty-eight (48) months.

APPLICATION TIMELINE

Application forms will be available from Monday, 16th June, 2025. However a deadline has not been specified but its best that interested applicants send out their applications in earnest and not waste any time.
